Hike along the Hermance river: From Lake Geneva to Loisin
In autumn 2021, I walked along the Hermance river, at the border with France on the east side of Geneva.
Hike to Montagne des Voirons
In the spring of 2021, I went on a hike to Montagne des Voirons, in the Chablais Alps near Annemasse. The usual path is to start near the monastery (Monastère de Béthlehem) below the summit then walk the short path to Signal des Voirons. Instead, I walked along the ridge, starting in Fillinges and arriving at Machilly.
Hike to Mont de Boisy
During winter 2020, I went on a hike to Mont de Boisy, a small mountain next to Lake Geneva between Annemasse and Thonon.
Walk from Thonon-les-Bains to Yvoire through Châteaux des Allinges
Last spring, I went on a walk in Haute-Savoie near Lake Geneva (Lac Léman): Starting from Thonon-les-Bains, I walked to Yvoire, a small medieval town by the lake, passing through the Châteaux des Allinges (Castles of Allinges) on the way.
Bains des Pâquis
The Bains des Pâquis are a public bath / beach in Geneva first built in 1872 on the north shore of Lake Geneva. It is open all year round, including January 1st when I visited in the early morning.
Summer walk in Geneva
Last summer, I went on a day trip to Geneva. Starting at La Jonction, I visited some highlights of the city and walked near the lake.
Jet d'Eau
The Jet d’Eau is a large 140m-high fountain in Lake Geneva, located in the Eaux-Vives district of Geneva next to where the lake flows into the Rhône. It is one of the city’s most famous landmarks and is visible from far away. There is a walkway, the Jetée des Eaux-Vives, to get right next to the nozzle. Here is a schedule of the operating hours of the fountain.
Towers of Cathédrale Saint-Pierre de Genève
The Cathédrale Saint-Pierre de Genève is a church in the old town of Geneva. It was built as a roman catholic church in the Middle Ages but became the adopted home church of Calvin, one of the leaders of the Protestant Reformation. Entrance to the main building is free, however access to the towers, with an open air observatory and a great view of Geneva and the lake, costs 5 Fr.
Hike to Salève: From Col du Mont Sion to Etrembières
Earlier this year, I went on a hike to Salève, a mountain in the Jura that overlooks the south-west side of Geneva but is actually located in Haute-Savoie. There are many trails to reach the plateau at the top of Salève and walk on once up there. For myself, I decided to cross the mountain along its length, starting from Col du Mont Sion and finishing at Etrembières.
