Hike to L'Arolette, Tête de Balme & Glacier du Tour
Last fall, I went back to Chamonix, in the Balme-Vallorcine area: I walked up L’Arollette and Tête de Balme (which are mountains in Switzerland) then took a trail down along Glacier du Tour.

Back in October, I headed to Italy starting with Turin, the former capital of the Duchy of Savoy, the Kingdom of Sardinia and the Kingdom of Italy. I went there by direct bus from Annecy through Flixbus. It took about 4h and just €15, passing through Chambéry and Tunnel de Fréjus on the way. I stayed in Turin for one week and did a lot of visiting. The weather was not that great but I still had a good time. Here are a few photos I took with my new Sony RX100 VII I had bought before the trip. I will soon make more in-depth articles (once I have cleared the backlog of hikes from the summer / early fall).
I mentioned in my last post that last fall I visited Fort du Saint-Eynard in the Chartreuse mountains above Grenoble. It is a fortress built in the 19th century as defence against a potential Italian invasion. It is accessible by car but there are also multiple hiking trails to get there. It offers a great view on Grenoble and the surrounding mountains.
At the beginning of fall, I went on a hike to Mont Saint-Eynard, in the Chartreuse mountains above Grenoble.
Near the end of summer, I went back to Chamonix: Starting from the summit of Le Brévent, I went down to Col du Brévent and Planpraz then walked to La Flégère.
Last summer, I went back to Désert de Platé, this time starting from the Flaine ski resort and walking a loop through Grandes Platières, Chalets de Sales and the Laouchet lakes.
Last summer, I went on a hike to Tête du Parmelan, in the Bornes mountains above Annecy.
When I visited the Château des Sires de Faucigny in Bonneville last summer, I also took the opportunity to walk around the town and crossed the Arve river a couple of times.
At the beginning of summer, I went on a hike to Route de la Soif (Road of Thirst), a dirt road along the foot of the Aravis mountains that goes from Col des Aravis to Col de l’Arpettaz, and reached Ugine at the end of the day.
After getting down to Plan de l’Aiguille from Aiguille du Midi, instead of going back down to Chamonix directly, I went to Lac Bleu then hiked the Grand Balcon Nord (Great North Balcony) to Montenvers above the Mer de Glace glacier.
