Walk along the Aire river: From Saint-Julien-en-Genevois to Geneva
Last winter, I went on a walk along another river in Geneva: This time I followed the Aire river from Saint-Julien-en-Genevois until the center of Geneva.
Here is a map of the path I walked (download KML, download large map):
In the morning, I took a LIHSA bus (line T72) and got off at Saint-Julien-en-Genevois. I headed towards the Aire river that flows through the city: It is a small river that starts under the name Nant de la Folle below Col du Mont Sion and becomes the Aire in Saint-Julien after it merges with other smaller streams. It then flows through Geneva, goes underground (like the Drize river) in Lancy and merges with the Arve river below Pont de Saint-Georges in the city. There is a nice path along the way (known as Promenade de l’Aire) from the border until Pont du Centenaire in Onex. Then I walked in the city, passed through Parc-En-Sauvy in Lancy and followed Ruisseau du Voiret until its confluence with the Aire. After that, I followed the Aire again through Parc Tressy-Cordy and Parc Bernasconi until Pont-Rouge in Lancy. At that point, the river goes underground. I visited the new Léman Express train station nearby then headed to Pont de Saint-Georges and the Arve. Finally, I walked back to Pont-Rouge in order to take the LIHSA bus back to Annecy.
