Hike to Montagne de Chevran
In the fall of last year, I went on a hike to Montagne de Chevran, above Cluses.
Here is a map of the path I walked (download KML):
In the morning, I took a train from Annecy to Cluses. There, it was quite cloudy but weather conditions seemed to be right for a sea of clouds if high enough so I was not too worried. I started walking towards La Croix Verte, a wayside cross on the north-east flank of Montagne de Chevran. On the way, I went through some thick fog but there was sun after that. At the cross, I took a path up towards Pointe de Chevran. I arrived at a location near a cliff with a good view on the sea of clouds and the surrounding mountains. I then made a detour through Rochers de la Maladière, where I found a few other viewpoints. I then went up to another viewpoint near the summit (Pointe de Chevran). There was a great view on Le Môle from there. There didn’t seem to be a path to the actual summit so I took a trail down to Cluses in order to loop back to my starting point. I passed the fog again then arrived in the city after a while. I made a detour to the Arve river and Pont Vieux and finally headed to the train station.
