Hike to Crêt de Chambellon & Source du Biel (Faverges)
Last fall, I went on a hike in Faverges, south of Lake Annecy: I walked up to the summit of Crêt de Chambellon, a small mountain that overlooks the town, then walked along the Eau Morte river, making a detour to the Source du Biel, which used to provide drinking water to Faverges.
Here is a map of the path I walked (download KML, download A4 PDF):
In the morning, I took a LIHSA bus (line 51) from Annecy to Faverges. I then took the long way around to find a path to the summit of Crêt de Chambellon from the east. At the summit, the view on Faverges and the surrounding mountains was great. I then walked down a more direct path to loop back to town. I headed towards the Eau Morte river (which starts under the name Torrent de Saint-Ruph below Col d’Orgeval, and is know in Faverges as La Glière) and visited the Source du Biel (aka Fontaine de Faverges), which used to provide drinking water to the town. Finally, I walked a path along the river until Pont de l’Englannaz in order to take the bus back to Annecy. However, because the bridge was closed for repair, the bus stop was moved a bit further up the road.
