Hike to Mont Julioz
Last summer, I went on a hike to Mont Julioz, in the Bauges mountains near Annecy.
Here is a map of the path I walked (download KML):
Like for the hike to Roc des Boeufs in the same area, I first took my bike on the SIBRA summer shuttle to the summit of Semnoz and went down to Col de Leschaux from there. I kept going to Bellecombe-en-Bauges where I parked my bike at Les Scieries, where an old water-powered sawmill has been preserved. I started on the trail to Col du Plane since I wanted to cross Mont Julioz south to north. After a while I found the actual trailhead to Mont Julioz. The trail started in the forest but was in the open after reaching the ridge. It was quite rocky with a few places where hands were needed. I reached the cross at the summit: Thanks to the central location of Mont Julioz, there was a great view on the Bauges mountains, especially on Mont Trélod. On the way down, there were a few really tricky parts at the beginning, however the path was equipped with ropes when needed. After some time, I left the ridge and started on the descent to Le Golet then kept going down, to Le Reposoir and Mont Devant. Finally, I found the trail I had taken at the beginning of the day and arrived back at Les Scieries. I went back to Annecy using first the Route du Col de Leschaux then the Voie Verte bike road. It was night when I arrived home.
