Église Notre-Dame du Val-de-Grâce
The Church of the Val-de-Grâce is a catholic church in the 5th arrondissement of Paris, designed by François Mansart and located inside the Val-de-Grâce Military Hospital (Hôpital d’instruction des armées du Val-de-Grâce). Its large dome is a principal landmark of the skyline of Paris. The church was founded by Anne of Austria, Queen Consort of Louis XIII, as part of a vow which she had made for the safe delivery of her son, the future Louis XIV: Construction started in 1645 and finished in 1667.
The church is accessible by visiting the Musée du Service de Santé des Armées (Museum of the Army Medical Corps), which is interesting in its own right.
Dome of Basilique du Sacré-Coeur de Montmartre
The Basilique du Sacré-Coeur de Montmartre is one of the best-known landmarks of Paris: Located at the top of Butte Montmartre, the white church is visible from the whole city and, at 200m, its dome is one of the highest points of Paris. It houses an observatory accessible only by stairs but the view at the top is worth the effort.
Panthéon
The Panthéon is a large building on Montagne Sainte-Geneviève in Paris. It was originally built as a church in the 18th century but now serves as a mausoleum for great Frenchmen.
Les Invalides / Tomb of Napoléon
Les Invalides is a landmark of Paris which houses the Musée de l’Armée, the military museum of the Army of France. Its most visible and famous feature is the Dôme des Invalides, a large church under which Emperor Napoléon Bonaparte is buried, along with other French war heroes.
Yumenoshima Tropical Greenhouse Dome
Yumenoshima Tropical Greenhouse Dome is located on a corner of Yumenoshima Park, in Koto Ward, Tokyo, and features a giant domed greenhouse. This dome holds about 1,000 varieties of tropical and subtropical plants, with colorful fruits and flowers throughout the year. It is heated using waste heat from trash burning at the nearby incineration plant. Boats floating at a yacht harbor can also be seen from the north side of the dome.
