Hike to Chalets de Charbonnière & Chalets de Varan
At the beginning of summer, I went on a hike to Chalets de Charbonnière and Chalets de Varan, above Passy.
Here is a map of the path I walked (download KML):
In the morning, I took a train from Annecy to Sallanches then boarded a LIHSA bus to Passy-Plaine-Joux. I then started on the path. I walked for a short time on the paved road near Guébriant. I entered the forest on the trail towards Chalets de Charbonnière and then reached the Chalets and Refuge de Varan some time later. The Chalets de Varan are located below the Aiguille de Varan and Pointe de Barmerousse and offer a great view on those mountains, as well as on the Mont Blanc and the Beaufortain on the other side of the Arve valley. I ate lunch then got started on the way down towards Bay, where I took a LIHSA bus back to Sallanches. There, I walked to the river Arve while waiting for the train back to Annecy.
