Hike around Roc de Four Magnin: Ancienne Mine, Col de la Frasse, Crêt du Char & Col de Bornette
Last spring, I went on a hike in the Bauges mountains: Starting from Lathuile, south of Lake Annecy, I walked a loop around Roc de Four Magnin, a smaller mountain located between Roc des Boeufs and Montagne du Charbon.
Here is a map of the path I walked (download KML):
In the morning, I took a LIHSA bus (51) and got off at Lathuile. I started walking on a dirt road towards the Ancienne Mine (Old Mine), where I had already been a few years ago. This time, after the mine, instead of going north, I walked towards Col de la Frasse, using first the paved road, which serves the many chalets in the area, then a dirt road until a chalet called Granges Neuves and finally a trail until the Col. I then took a rocky trail through the forest to reach Crêt du Char. There was a great view on the Bauges from up there. A trail to get to the summit of Roc de Four Magnin starts nearby but there was no time: I had to get back to Lathuile to take the bus back to Annecy. On the way down, I passed through Col de Bornette and Les Ailes du Nant, an emergency hut open during summer, then reached the forest and a steep trail down to Montgellaz. I then followed the paved road until Lathuile.
