Dubai Marina, Atlantis The Palm, Burj Al Arab & Dubai Fountain
On my second day in Dubai, I had to be at the Marina early for a boat tour I had booked (I will write a full post about it later). After the tour, I continued walking through Dubai Media City to the Palm Jumeirah Monorail Gateway station. The Monorail leads to the Atlantis hotel, built on the artificial Palm Jumeirah Islands. A small part is open to the public. Besides the hotel, there is also an aquarium (The Lost Chambers), a waterpark (Aquaventure) and a dolphin park (Dolphin Bay), where you can swim with dolphins.
After the Palm, I took the tram until its terminus. I then walked the remaining distance until Burj Al Arab, but I could not get inside. I went to the nearby Madinat Jumeirah, a hotel/mall/restaurant complex, built to look like a traditional arabian town. It looked quite nice. I then walked to the Mall of the Emirates Metro station. This is where the indoor ski slopes (Ski Dubai) are located.
I soon took the Metro to the Dubai Mall area. I walked outside the walkway this time. At the Mall, I walked around the basin for the fountains then sat at a terrace, smoking sheesha until the start of the Dubai Fountain shows. Each show only lasts for one song (a few minutes) and takes place every 30min at night. Finally, I went back to my hotel.
