Spicy Miso Tsukemen at Mendokoro Hanada in Ikebukuro
Spicy Miso Tsukemen (“extra vegetables” option), with additional flavoured egg. I thought that the soup was not much spicier than the regular miso version but it was still pretty tasty.

The final round with the 24 best entries has been taking place for the past few weeks in Ohkubo Park in Kabukicho and will last until next Wednesday. Each week, 6 of the finalists serve their specialty tsukemen.

Kotteri Shoyu Tsukemen, with additional half-boiled egg (for the noodles) and grated cheese (for the soup).
Tsukemen at Kikanbou in Kanda
Yesterday, I went to the Kikanbou tsukemen restaurant in Kanda. Kikanbou’s specialty is the so-called kara-shibi miso ramen and tsukemen: It is possible to choose from 5 different levels of spice in the soup, for both kara (the regular heat) and shibi (numbing pepper, that delays the sensation of heat). The photo above and below has the 4th level for each spice. It is pretty hot!
