SAIL Amsterdam is a maritime event taking place every 5 years in Amsterdam, where boats from all over the world come to the Amsterdam harbour for a few days. Some of the ships can then be visited.
REM Eiland is a platform that used to broadcast pirate TV and radio from the North Sea but that now sits near the IJ river in Houthaven, in Amsterdam West. The roof can be accessed freely and also has a restaurant. I was there during SAIL Amsterdam 2015, hence all the boats on the IJ.
NDSM Werf is an area in Amsterdam Noord that used to be a derelict shipyard but has been converted into a space for underground culture and events. It is on the other side of the IJ river from the center of Amsterdam but there are frequent (and free) ferries to go there.
Starting in De Pijp, I went for a walk through Museumplein, Vondelpark, the canal area, the Jordaan and, finally, walked to the Oosterdokseiland and the Muziekgebouw aan’t IJ concert hall near the Passenger Terminal.
Starting in Museumplein, I walked to the canals in the center of Amsterdam. Near Amsterdam Centraal, I took a free ferry across the IJ to Amsterdam North (Noord). I went inside the EYE Filmmuseum then walked along the shore for a bit. I then crossed the IJ again and walked towards the Science Center NEMO.
