Hike to Mont Margeriaz
In the summer of 2020, I went on a hike to Mont Margeriaz in the Bauges mountains, taking the path through Golet de l’Agneau from La Féclaz.
Here is a map of the path I walked:

In the morning, I took the train to Aix-les-Bains then boarded the summer shuttle (Ligne Nature) to the ski resort of La Féclaz at its terminus. I started walking from there towards Col de Plainpalais where the trail to Mont Margeriaz starts. It was quite steep to reach Golet de l’Agneau below the cliff: It is a narrow passage through the cliff to get to Plateau du Margeriaz. The summit of the mountain was right next to the exit. I walked a little bit on the ridge towards the north but I was soon on my way in the other direction. The path followed the ski tracks of Station Aillons-Margériaz : The plateau is a bit scarred by the large amount of them in the area. It was on the border of a cliff and there was a good view on the Bauges. Mont Blanc could also be seen. I then took a trail towards Col de Verne: I needed to get down to the valley in Chambéry and that was still a long walk away. I crossed the villages of Thorméroz and Saint-Jean-d’Arvey on the way to Saint-Alban-Leysse in the valley. Finally, I took a local bus from there to the Chambéry train station, then a train back to Annecy.
Another option this summer (2021), and maybe the next years, would have been to take the new summer shuttle from Chambéry to Aillon-le-Jeune and walk to the summit of Mont Margeriaz from there.
