My new hiking guide book: 30 Day Hikes Near Tokyo
I published a new book last month. It is available on Amazon as a paperback and is called: 30 Day Hikes Near Tokyo.
Here is a sample PDF with a few hikes: Sample PDF. You can also go to the companion web page for the book, where you will find GPS tracks for the hikes, as well as links to additional photos and public transport directions.
It is a guide book that catalogues a few day hikes around Tokyo. All the hikes have actually been covered in this blog as hike reports but the itineraries have been edited to make them easier to follow as a guide. They are accessible using public transport from central Tokyo so it is convenient if you are just visiting.
The book is in English, with waypoints in the hike directions listed in Japanese as well so that they can be used along with a Japanese map or by following the signs on the trails, which are mostly in kanji. It is a relatively large book (US letter format 8.5"x11") and is very visual with a lot of photos and maps for trail direction (made with OpenStreetMap data in QGIS).
As I mentioned, it is available on all Amazon stores as a paperback (with Print-on-Demand):
Here are a few photos of the book:

Like my previous hiking guide book, I used Scribus (an open source desktop publishing software) for the layout. I want to make a more technical report on the tool but I haven’t got around to it yet…
