Hike to Mount Kumotori

At 2,017m, Mount Kumotori (雲取山) is the highest mountain in Tokyo. The peak actually stands at the boundaries of Tokyo, Yamanashi Prefecture and Saitama Prefecture. I went there on a day-hike a few weeks ago. I basically followed the plan outlined here (with map).

I started in the morning at the trailhead of Kamozawa (鴨沢), west of Lake Okutama in Yamanashi Prefecture: It can be reached by bus from Okutama station. The trail goes through the forest until it reaches the summit of Mount Nanatsuishi (七ツ石山). Then it follows the well-trodden path on the Ishi Ridge (石尾根) until the summit of Mount Kumotori. I ate lunch there then went back (almost) the same way: The only difference is I took the Beech Hill (ブナ坂) trail to get around the summit of Mount Nanatsuishi. I was back at Kamozawa before sunset to catch the bus back to Okutama.
